  • Clearance – Minimum of 1.5 inches between the bar and the wall.
  • 18-Inch Vertical Grab Bar – Required in both ADA and ambulatory stalls.

ADA Toilet and Sink Requirements

  • Toilet Height – 17 to 19 inches from the floor to the seat.
  • Flush Controls – Must be operable with one hand and require less than 5 lbs of force.
  • Sink Height – Cannot exceed 34 inches.
  • Knee Clearance – At least 27 inches of space under the sink.
  • Mirror Placement – Bottom edge must be no higher than 40 inches above the floor.

Toe Clearance & Maneuvering Space

  • Toe Clearance – Minimum 9 inches from the floor, extending at least 6 inches deep.
  • Maneuvering Space – At least 60 inches of clear space in front of toilets and sinks.

Other Important ADA Considerations

  • Door Hardware – Must be operable with one hand, without tight grasping or twisting.
  • Signage – Braille and tactile signs must be mounted outside accessible stalls.
  • Partitions – Should have smooth, non-abrasive surfaces and allow for privacy while maintaining accessibility.
  • Urinals – At least one should be no more than 17 inches from the floor, with a 30×48-inch clear space in front.
